Details on my behavior are…
Behavior Condition: 2. Blue
KNOWN HISTORY:: was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his/her behavior in his/her previous home.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Nervous, tense but allowed all handling
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 11/15/17 Lying in back of kennel with a low, tense body. She makes eye contact when spoken to and tolerates petting along her head and body while tilting her ears and closing her eyes. Needs more time to adjust. Sprayed feliway.
Cage Condition:: Cage is recently cleaned
Reaction to assessor:: Jesse was tense and lying down completely flat inside her litter box.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Jesse slow blinks at the assessor and wasn’t confident enough to come forward.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Jesse remains calm.
Reaction to touch:: Jesse lip licks when the assessor extends his hand out then curls up tight and shrinks her body. She tolerates being pet but seems uncomfortable and remains completely immobile throughout the interaction. After a couple of minutes she lifts her head up and leans in for rubs her on her cheeks.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Timid
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: Jesse has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experience
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
RECOMMENDATIONS:: None
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Please note that Jesse is being treated for an upper respiratory infection at the time of the behavior assessment. This condition may affect some of the behaviors shown during evaluation. Jesse may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
