09/27/2017 AT RISK MEMO
Jack A1126448 is at risk with an Adult-Only determination, for behavior concerns in the care center. He allows touch and handling, and at time responds to petting by leaning in, but at other times responds to approach by backing away with tense body language. We are concerned that he will not thrive in the shelter environment.

09/26/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Steady VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Bold, Timid MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 9/24/17- Observed Behavior – Tense body, allows handling but grabs table with feet and holds on ENRICHMENT NOTES: 09/24/17 By the back of cubby, looking out with dilated eyes. Focuses on me, but sniffs my hand and allows gentle petting. He closes his eyes, but still appears nervous. Has potential to warm up, but needs time to acclimate. 9/25/17 Hunched down in top cubby, wide-eyed, ears sideways, seemed anxious. Shifted back when door opened. Sniffed hand, then allowed and slightly leaned into pets, and closed eyes. Remained unsure. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Jack remains tense, crouched position with head down hiding in his cage cubby. Reaction when softly spoken to: Jack becomes alert with eyes wide open. Reaction to cage door opening: Jack remains stiff body, tail tightly wrapped against the body, ears erect and forward. Reaction to touch: Jack flinches when touched and shows no further interest during the interaction. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Jack may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to his new home and family at his own pace.
