Lying in back of kennel, body relaxed and ears forward. Comes to front of kennel and allows petting along head and body while purring. Allows all petting and handling. Doing great!

Basic Information:
Jack is a 12 week old, domestic medium hair kitten, who was found as a stray by a client. He was not neutered prior to coming into the shelter.
Behavior Notes:
Jack was very easy to handle during intake and allowed counselor to pick him up and hold him. He was not growling or hissing.

History: stray intake 1/27-finder reported he has not being eating or going to the bathroom for 1 week. Gave SQ LRS.
Lateral AXR – a lot of soft stool present throughout colon w/ gas
Subjective: BARH. Great appetite. Normal bm and u in cage. Abdomen is still very distended and he has newly noted ataxia this morning.

EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal or ocular discharge noted
Oral Exam: adult incisors, the rest is kitten dentition
PLN: No enlargements noted
H/L: Grade 2/6 HM, RR, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupneic
ABD: Non painful, severely distended
U/G: MI
MSI: Ambulatory x 4 with ataxia, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat, some stool caked on hind
CNS: Mentation appropriate – ataxia
Assessment:
Grade 2/6 HM
Ataxia r/o bloat vs neurologic vs other
Distended abdomen/feces filled colon – r/o endoparasites vs congenital vs ascites vs other
Prognosis: Good to fair
Plan:
CTM appetite, ataxia, and BM
Start metronidazole 15mg/kg PO BID x10d until 1/7 (first dose given this morning)

CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities
Rectal: normal rectal tone, no stool in in rectum
