Behavior Condition: 4. Orange
KNOWN HISTORY:: Igor was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: 02/12/18 Hissing, swatting, and growling.
Cage Condition:: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:: Igor crouched and trying to hide inside his litter box.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Igor lip licks, his ears bend slightly and he lowers his head.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Igor rises up and hisses.
Reaction to touch:: Igor starts to low growl, his ears bend flat and he slowly inches away when the assessor extends his hand out. He hisses when touched, but tolerates gentle petting along his body. The end of his tail flicks and he shifts away when he’s done interacting.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Timid,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: Igor has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Igor tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
