10/25/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Hydro’s former owner stated she is shy for a few minutes around strangers. She likes to come to you; she does not like being approached. She has spent time with kids ages 2 and 6. She would hide from the kids. She plays in a gentle manner with adults and does not play with kids. She lived with her 12 year old sister. They were affectionate and relaxed with each other. They played in a gentle manner. Reaction to assessor: Hydro looks neutral, lying down on his cage bedding when approached by the assessor. Reaction to door opening: Hyro sits upright in place, relaxed body posture, alert with normal shape eyes. Reaction to touch: Hydro stands with tail up then head-butts the assessor’s hand but began to meow whine and gets agitated with the touch. Then she starts to hiss and swat (no claws) as she continues to solicit. Placement determination: Experience/ no child Initially Hydro solicits petting and attention, but after a few soft passes over the body he/she begins to hiss and swat at the assessor. This may be a sign of petting-induced aggression, where repeated physical contact results in discomfort for the cat, or it may be a sign of overstimulation. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Hydro becomes reactive. Treats should be used to reward appropriate responses to physical attention.
