12/04/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Hunt was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. He displayed fractious behavior upon intake and attempted to flee when transferring him into a carrier. He retreated to the back and moved away from the counselor when approached. The medical team reports he did not allow handling during his initial medical exam. Reaction to assessor: Hunt becomes alert and focuses on the assessor while lying down. Reaction when softly spoken to: Hunt’s ears tilt sideways, shifting his focus from the assessor to his surroundings. Reaction to cage door opening: Hunt becomes stiff and alert. Reaction to touch: Hunt sniffs the assessor’s hand with a slow approach, but does not allow touch; he strikes and retreats to the back of the kennel, crouches over and blinks and lip licks. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Hunt is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He has tried to swat and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
