10/12/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Honolulu was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. Reaction to assessor: Honolulu was outside his den lying on his blanket near the back of the kennel. Reaction when softly spoken to: Honolulu lifts his head up and makes eye contact with the assessor but doesn’t come forward. Reaction to cage door opening: Honolulu lies motionless. Reaction to touch: Honolulu leans forward to sniff the assessor’s hand then quickly backs away and lip licks. He allows petting briefly on his head with a slow approach then quickly becomes uncomfortable when touched along his body. His body tenses up then he swats, tries to bite and allows no more contact. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Honolulu is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and may require further investigation before placement in a home. He has tried to swat, bite, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
