Medical Behavior Evaluation BLUE
Medical Summary 10/26/16 Check kitten bleeding from the mouth. Microchip scan neg. O: BAR. Too painful to be examined awake – clear oral injury with possible fracture. Sedated with Telazol 0.1 ml IM. Also gave Buprenorphine 0.5 mg/ml 0.15 ml Sq for pain control. ORAL/MS: Blood in oral cavity and on lower lip. Rostral mandible freely mobile with palpable fractures bilaterally approx. between canine teeth and P2. No open wounds visible intraorally. Right mand C. is loose. Mod. soft tissue swelling along the rostral mandible. 1 cm wound upper lip. No palpable maxillary fractures, hard palate intact. EENT: Dried blood on nose. H/L: Lungs clear, mild inspiratory stertor. No murmurs. ABD/UG: Female, no spay scar. Palpation WNL. MS: No palpable limb fractures, toenails WNL. A: Mandibular fractures, wounds, and epistaxis secondary to trauma. P: Radiographs taken: R. and L. lat skull open mouth view – right mandibular fracture just caudal to canine tooth, left mandibular fracture between P3/P4. Rostrocaudal skull, open mouth view – No maxillary or nasal bone lesions visible, no skull lesions visible. TMJ appears WNL. Cleaned as much blood off face as possible. Avoid oral medications. Continue Buprenorphine 0.15 ml SQ BID x 2 weeks. Convenia 0.23 ml SQ given. Feed puree-style soft food only. Monitor appetite and drinking. Rec. placement. Fair to good prognosis with appropriate treatment.
