HELGA – A1070897
Safe - 5-8-2016 Manhattan Rescue: Staten Island Hope Please honor your pledges: http://www.statenislandhoperescue.org/
**SAFE 05/08/16** HELGA IS PERFECTLY HEALTHY BUT AS ANY CAT – A BIT AFRAID IN THE SHELTER – AND FOR THAT – SHE IS SCHEDULED TO DIE AT NOON SATURDAY!! A volunteer writes: Helga is a girl who is stressed out in the shelter. Helga will need some calm and patient loving to get her out of her shell. She is independent and takes time to warm up. She wants to have her own human, but she really does not know how to ask. If you are the patient, calm, and loving type of person who knows how to earn a cat’s loyalty and trust, then Helga is your girl. Come to the Manhattan shelter and meet this diamond in the rough. Another volunteer writes: Helga’s past may be a mystery–but we can figure a few things out. This calm, cool tabby was rescued from inside a building, and since she’s very comfortable with people, it’s reasonable to assume she was a former house pet left behind by her previous family. When she arrived at the Care Center, she meowed and accepted attention from intake staffers, but then begged off, revealing an independent, not-needy streak. When I met her, she seemed happy to see a friendly face and be talked to gently, yet not quite sure if she was ready to let go of her tough-girl facade. I sense that Helga craves the love of a loyal pet parent of family, and once she knows she’s really home, she’ll return that love in spades. 04/23/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to assessor: Helga looks relaxed in her cage when approached by the assessor. Reaction to door opening: Helga remains sitting upright on her cage bedding, relaxed body posture, meowing attention. Reaction to touch: Helga accepts a stroke then slowly retreats from the assessor’s hand, stress meows and hisses to stop the interaction. Placement determination: Experience / no child Helga tolerates attention and petting but may be stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
