*SAFE* 01/20/16 – Harriet is an adorable young black kitten who was recently diagnosed with a severe URI. The kitten is also underweight and dehydrated. Please help this little girl find the vet care needed!

eyes were initially closed shut; cleaned with eye wash solution; large amount of light green ocular discharge from both eyes; mild blood seen in discharge from right eye
dried blood around mouth
dehydrated; very notable skin tent
showed no interest in food
no picture was taken at this time due to condition
as per dr. 1173, gave 0.15ml buprenorphone 0.3mg/ml SQ
start 0.4ml doxycycline 50mg/ml SID x 10 days, gave first dose

Hx: Severe URI, underweight
S: Seated in cage, eyes closed, allows all handling
O: QAR, BCS 3/9, MMs pink and tacky, CRT <2 sec, decreased skin turgor, 5-8% dehydrated
EENT: Eyes closed, moderate amt crusty/purulent discharge OS, severe amt mucopurulent discharge OD. OU conjunctival vessels injected, chemosis, third eyelids elevated, blepharospasm. Crusty discharge and food debris all around lips and gums – after cleaning, it became clear that pt’s upper lips are ulcerated. Purulent nasal discharge. Clean ears.
H/L: NSR, NMA. Harsh lung sounds.
Abd: Soft, no pain on palpation, no masses palpated.
M/S/I: Sternally recumbent, appears to be able to move all limbs. No skin lesions noted.
A:
1. Severe URI and conjunctivitis, possible pneumonia
2. Dehydration
3. Oral ulceration
Short-term prognosis: Fair to poor
P:
1. Continue doxy
2. Start Baytril 22.7 mg/ml 0.4 ml SID x10 days
3. Buprenorphine 0.1 ml SQ BID x5 days
4. Nebulize with saline BID x5 days
5. LRS 100 ml SQ BID x5 days
6. Clean face gently BID x5 days
7. TAB oint OU BID x10 days

Green medical behavior- easy to handle

Extremely sick kitten. The eyes are closed shut so he was started when I pet him, but he allows all petting and relaxed.
