*** SAFE 11/03/17 *** First of all, Guy is a Girl (not a Guy)….Doesn’t sound like she had much of a home life or attention. She was unspayed until now. Said to play rough and scratch furniture but that usually means zero stimulation for the cat and no outlets for natural cat behavior. This little lady will be fine with a patient foster or adopter, some wand toys and a home that truly wants her. She’s New Hope only so please email the Help Desk for rescue referrals……

Hello, my name is Guy. My animal id is #10455. I am a desexed female brown tabby cat at the Staten Island Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 22-Oct-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving.
Guy 10455 is at risk for behavior concerns (New Hope Only Behavior Determination). He does not tolerate touch & is showing signs of being uncomfortable and fearful with interaction and is not thriving in the busy care center.

PE: WNL Exam & surgery performed by Dr. _____1385 Feline spay Anesthesia – ___0.07__mL Telazol induction. Intubated. Isoflurane/O2 maint. Sx. – Routine OVH. Ventral midline incision. Subcuticular closure with absorbable suture. Green linear tattoo placed lateral to incision. __0.27__mL onsior injectable and __0.36__mL Simbadol for pain management.
[DVM Intake] DVM Intake Exam Estimated age:1 year History : owner surrender Subjective: Observed Behavior -sedated for exam Evidence of Cruelty seen -no Evidence of Trauma seen -no Objective BCS 5/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal or ocular discharge noted Oral Exam: clean adult teeth PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupneic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: FI MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment appears healthy Prognosis:good Plan: SURGERY: Okay for surgery

Client stated that cat can play somewhat rough with people as well as with other cats.

Behavior Notes: client stated this cat scratches furniture, but did not say whether or not he provided any kind of scratching post.
Bite history:: Client stated that this animal has never bitten or scratched a person or other animal.
Has this cat ever had any medical issues?: No
KNOWN HISTORY:: Indoor and/or Outdoor? Indoors Previously lived with: 1 Adult Behavior toward strangers: As per the previous owner, Guy is Shy for a few minutes. Behavior toward children: Unknown Behavior toward cats: Tolerant Behavior toward dogs: Unknown Bite or Scratch history: Previous owner stated this cat scratches furniture, but did not say whether or not he provided any kind of scratching post. Litter box training: Yes
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Very nervous, growling, body tense, ears flat, difficult to handle, Exam limited
Cage Condition:: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:: Guy appears very alert when assessor approaches. His eyes dialate and he wraps his tail tightly around his body.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Guy remains motionless and watches the assessor closely, his eyes following all of the assessors movements.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Guy hisses when the kennel door opens and moves to the other side of his kennel.
Reaction to touch:: Guy moves away from being touched. He seems uncomfortable with his surroundings and needs more time to adjust. When assessor was able to pet Guy, his body tensed up and he ran to the other side of his kennel.
Reaction to being picked up:: Guy did not allow to be picked up.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: New Hope Only- Guy is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He has tried to flee and is extremely stressed in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
