Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Grimes was brought in as a stray, so there is no information on her behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment. Her finder reports she was very friendly. Our admission counselors report she was shy and gentle during intake. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – mild mannered initially but during blood draw became fractious, hissing, striking EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Grimes was lying down, calm and relaxed upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Grimes looks at the assessor with soft eyes and approaches the front. Reaction to cage door opening: Grimes remains soft and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Grimes was hesitant and emits a stretched out meow. She swipes when petting was attempted, but will allow the assessor to stroke her gently on her head with some coaxing. She slowly leans in for cheek rubs, but her body remains tense and her tail sways side to side, while curved downwards shaped like a rainbow. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate VOCAL: Somewhat chatty CHARACTER TYPE: Curious, Timid BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Please be advised that Grimes seems to be in heat at the time of assessment, and the behavior presented at the time of evaluation may differ when the heat cycle is complete due to a change in hormonal balance. RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced cat parent – Grimes tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may need time to warm up to her new home and family. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
