11/14/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
**UPDATE 11/14/16** Gray appears to have acclimated well to the shelter environment. He comes to the front when appraoched and remains soft and relaxed as the cage door opens. He will lean in for petting and begins to purr. He does becomes tense during pick up, but remains calm when held. When placing him back into his kennel, he would come back to the front to solicit more attention. He is very affectionate during interactions. Behavior Determination: Average Gray interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for cat parents with an average amount of experience. Date: 11/02/16 Gray was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. Reaction to assessor: Gray was pressed up against the back wall of the kennel with wide eyes focused on the assessor. Reaction when softly spoken to: Gray keeps her tail at her side, shifts her wait and relaxes then turns towards the assessor and meows softly. Reaction to cage door opening: Gray remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Gray seems unsure, leans back and meows softly when the assessor approaches. He sniffs the assessor, allows petting along his body with a slow approach and tends to lip lick and focus on the assessor’s hand. His body rises up when rubbed on his back and he slowly leans in when rubbed on his cheeks. He feels confident at the back of the kennel and doesn’t come forward when coaxed. Behavior Determination: Experience No Child Gray tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
