***SAFE 08/29/17*** SUPER SWEET BEGINNER RATED 11 YEAR OLD GRADY IS DIABETIC AND NEEDS A HERO TONIGHT! 11 year old GRADY was dumped by her owner because she is a diabetic! GRADY lived with her owner since kittenhood and owner had no records of ever taking her to the vet. Grady is missing all his teeth and needs some follow up vet care. She loves attention and would love to come live with a special purrson who will take care of her needs!! MUST RESERVE GRADY BY 12 NOON!!

Hx: reportedly diabetic per previous owner; blood work available for review CBC-mild monocytosis Chem-severe hyperglycemia (457), elevated globulins/TP, elevated ALT (166), elevated GGT (10) S/O no obvious appetite QAR, sweet, docile, allows all handling mm pk/pigmented, sl tacky with mild hypersalivation no nasal discharge or sneezing OU-open and clear; clouding of lens intermittent purring on auscultation abdomen slightly tense, no palpable abnormalities A Diabetes mellitus Elevated globulins-r/o dehydration vs other Elevated ALT/GGT-r/o concurrent pancreatitis vs other P Rec’d IVC, bolus of 50 ml then continue at 15 ml/hr overnight; reassess rate in AM glargine 1 U SQ BID with food if eating cerenia 0.4 ml IV SID x 3 days rec’d BG curve in 10-14 days prognosis: fair to good with management

08/22/17 15:50 Basic information: Grady is a 11 yr old cat who was previously owned and was kept in the same home since she was just a few months old. Unfortunately due to Grady having diabetes she could not be kept. There is no record of her ever going to the vet. Socialization: Around strangers and children Grady is described as shy for a few minutes and does not play with adults nor children. She has been socialized with both cats and dogs and was described as tolerant with them but didn’t play. There’s no records of her ever biting another animal or person. Behavior: Grady will meow a lot when she wants to speak with you, occasionally hides in fear and will sleep during car rides. She has never had a bath, isn’t bothered by having her nails trimmened, being placed in a carrier or being disturbed while she is asleep and enjoys being brushed and being picked up and being held. For a New Family to Know: Grady is described as mellow, shy and talkative. She has a low activity level, enjoys loves to eat, will follow you around when home with youbut occasionally keeps to herself and does not have an interest in toys. She has been kept mostly indoors, prefers to sleep on either in the bathroom or the kitchen, ate Friskies dry food and 9 lives wet food 3x a day,is considered to be litter box trained, prefers a covered litter box with clumping litter and likes a scratching post made of carpet. Intake: Upon intake Grady allowed all handling and being collared. She also allowed counselor to carry her and pet her and Grady was head butting the counselors hands and the carrier.

ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Calm, Sweet KNOWN HISTORY: Lived Indoors Previously lived with: adults Behavior toward strangers: shy for a few minutes Behavior toward children: shy for a few minutes Behavior toward cats: tolerant with them but didn’t play Behavior toward dogs: tolerant with them but didn’t play Bite or Scratch history: none Litter box training: yes Other notes: Grady is described as mellow, shy and talkative. She has a low activity level. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 8/22/17- Observed Behavior – friendly, quiet, allows exam/treatment with minimal restraint. ENRICHMENT NOTES: 8/23/17- Resting in litter box, soft eyes and body. Became completely distracted when offered treats, allowed touch, ignored me while eating. When done, head-butted, leaned and arched into pets, rolled over, ate more treats from my hand. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Grady immediately comes soliciting at the front of the cage. Reaction to door opening: Grady remains standing at the front of the cage, relaxed body posture, soliciting attention. Reaction to touch: Grady head-butts the assessor’s hand and appreciates petting on the head and body. Reaction to Being Picked up: Allows the pickup and remains calm. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Beginner Grady interacts with the Assessor, solicits attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat can go to a beginner home.

Evidence of Cruelty seen – no Evidence of Trauma seen – no Objective P = 120 R = 20 BCS: 4/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal discharge noted Oral Exam: missing all teeth PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: female MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment: geriatric m/n dsh, possible history of DM. All teeth extracted Plan: stat blood glucose. if elevated recommend glucose curve, fructosamine levels?, start on insulin. Prognosis: fair to good SURGERY: too old to alter
