GRACIE – A1075351

**SAFE 07/02/16** SHE HAD A HOME FOR 10 DAYS, and tonight, GRACIE is right back where she started from….literally. This spayed 18-month-old kitten was adopted from the ACC on June 1st and bunged right back there on June 11th, allegedly because of “pets conflict.” Which is a curious surrender reason, given that her surrender notes mention this: “There is no known experience with being around other cats. When she is around other dogs she is respectful. There is no known history of her biting another animal or person.” Liar, liar, pants on fire, the people who bounced her home and bounced her right back to the shelter, just simply don’t seem to have wanted her. Sure, her shelter notes mention that she was wary of a child in the home, but given how trustworthy those folks were about the whole “pets conflict” thing, it’s anybody’s guess if they even had a kiddo. GRACIE has an EXPNOCHILD rating and needs a foster/adopter to save her life, tonight!

She isn’t bothered when she is disturbed while sleeping. Gracie is described as being independent with a medium activity level that would do best in a home that has no small children or other pets. When home she rarely seeks attention. She was indoors only, she slept in a bedroom and ate wet food Wellness brand 1/2 cup at least 3 times a day. She is litter box trained using an uncovered box with clay pellets. Upon intake Gracie was tense and retreated to the back of the carrier. Cousnelor was able to scan (positive), not collared.

06/13/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Gracie’s previous adopter reported she is friendly and going with strangers, but isn’t very playful. She has been around a child and was respectful, but mostly kept her distance and hissed when the child approached her. She was also respectful around a dog. She allows the owner to pick her up and place her into a carrier. She was described as an independent cat, with a medium activity level. The owner did report she would nip when they attempted to pet her or handle her when she would retreat from them. She did not break skin, but may need time to get accustomed to her new surroundings. Reaction to Assessor: Gracie was calm and relaxed upon approach, and started to groom herself. Reaction when softly spoken to: Gracie looks at the assessor with relaxed eyes. Reaction to cage door opening: Gracie was a bit tense, and shifts away from the beginner slightly. Reaction to touch: Gracie sniffs the assessor’s hand and was hesitant initially, but accepts petting on her head and body. She closes her eyes, but the end of her tail flickers and thumps lightly. Reaction to being picked up: Gracie is a bit tense, but allows handling. Placement Determination: Experience No Child Gracie tolerates attention and petting, but may display signs of agitation during interactions. She has not nipped during the interaction with the assessor, but due to the information provided by the previous owner, we recommend this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents, who will allow her appropriate time to adjust in her new home, and who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Gracie becomes reactive. Treats should be used to reward appropriate responses to physical attention. She may also do best in a home without children.
