Hello, my name is Glenn. My animal id is #16282. I am a male black cat at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a aco impound on 16-Dec-2017.
Glenn was placed at risk due to behavior; Glenn is not thriving in this environment and would benefit from placement outside the shelter.Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.

Details on my behavior are…
Behavior Condition: 3. Yellow
KNOWN HISTORY:: Glenn was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Attempted to flee, very nervous, mild hissing
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 12/17/17 Lying in back of kennel, body tense and eyes wide. Tolerates petting along head and body while backing away slowly and turning his head to smell my hand, tail tucked between legs. Needs more time to adjust. 12/18/17 Lying in litter box with a low, tense body. Makes and maintains eye contact when spoken to and tolerates slow petting along head and back while turning head to watch my hand with wide eyes and licking lips. Nervous. Not interested in treats at the moment – too focused on me. Needs more time to adjust. 12/19/17 Hunched over near the back of the kennel, watching with wide, wary eyes. He lip licks when spoken to softly then slowly inches away and retreats into his litter box. Hisses when the door opens. He lowers his head and shrinks his body when I approach him. He flinches slightly when touched while maintaining eye contact, lip licks and tolerates petting with a slow approach. Offered treats but showed no interest.
Cage Condition:: Cage is re-arranged
Reaction to assessor:: Glenn was tense and hunched over near the back of the kennel, watching the assessor with wide, focused eyes.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Glenn lip licks then slowly inches away and retreats into his litter box.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Glenn hisses then shifts away to the other side of the double kennel.
Reaction to touch:: Glenn lowers his head and shrinks his body when the assessor extends his hand forward. He flinches slightly when touched while maintaining eye contact, lip licks and tolerates petting with a slow approach.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Skittish,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: Glenn has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
RECOMMENDATIONS:: None
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Glenn tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
