I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 09-Dec-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- homeless.

Ghost is at risk for medical reasons, having been diagnosed with Upper Respiratory Infection, which is contagious to other cats. Behaviorally, we have no concerns for Ghost, whom we believe would be suitable for most homes.

DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: Reported 7 years Microchip noted on Intake? Scanned neg History : Surrendered, no health hx reported. Pt was growling and arching his back in the kennel, so he was put into Freeman net and brought to the exam table. He then began foaming at the mouth and then vomited a large volume of brown thick liquid. He was put into a carrier to relax and while the net was cleaned. Subjective: Alert, oriented Observed Behavior – Hissing, growling. In net for exam. Objective BAR-H, MMs pink EENT: Eyes clear, no nasal or ocular discharge noted Oral Exam: Not performed PLN: Not palpated H/L: NSR, NMA, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: Male intact MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: Did not palpate Assessment: Apparently healthy based on limited exam Prognosis: Excellent Plan: Neuter SURGERY: Okay for surgery 1088

As I approached Ghost inside his carrier he began to meow. Ghost stepped out of the carrier right away when I opened the door and tried to flee. Ghost allowed me to collar him but would try to flee when I tried to take a picture. If I tried to stop him with my hand he would begin to hiss and thump his tail. Ghost allowed me to pick him up and place him inside his kennel.

Basic Information:: Ghost is a 7 year old male black domestic short haired cat. Ghost lived with previous owner for about 6 years and was surrendered because previous owner no longer had a place to live. Ghost has no injuries or health problems and has not been taken to the vet.
Previously lived with:: Ghost previously lived with 1 adult.
How is this cat around strangers?: Ghost is shy around strangers. Ghost will keep his distance and will approach strangers when he feels comfortable. Ghost will approach and sniff strangers and will allow to be petted.
How is this cat around children?: Ghost has previously interacted with a 2 year old child. Ghost will keep his distance and is scared of children. He will only observe and will run away.
How is this cat around other cats?: Ghost has not interacted with cats.
How is this cat around dogs?: Ghost has not interacted with dogs
Behavior Notes: During car rides, Ghost is relaxed. Ghost has never been given a bath or had his nails trimmed. Ghost enjoys having his coat brushed and is not bothered when he is put into a carrier or when being disturbed as he sleeps. Ghost struggles when being picked up or held and will wiggle to try and escape.

For a New Family to Know: Ghost is a playful, shy, and independent cat. Ghost loves to play and chase string. Ghost was kept as an indoors only cat and was free fed dry food and given wet food twice a week. Ghost is litter box trained and used both an uncovered and hooded litter box with Tidy Cats litter. Ghost had multiple scratching posts made out of cardboard or carpet but he preferred to scratch on owners bed.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: Dozing in litter box, woke when door opened. Lay in place, soft eyes and body. Sniffed hand, then sat up, leaned hard into pets, purred.

Reaction when softly spoken to:: Ghost becomes neutral, loose body in place.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Ghost engages with tail up, soft eyes, ears erect and forward.
Reaction to touch:: Ghost head bunts the assessor’s hand, purrs and appreciates the petting on the head and body.
Reaction to being picked up:: He briefly allows the pickup then jumps back into the cage.
