Genesse is a complete love! She chirps when you pet her. She came in as a stray and had a bit of a wound on her leg that should be seen by a private vet. She is doing well and will roll over as soon as you pet her.

Open wound on right side towards rear. Cleaned with nolvasan solution.
As per dr. 1168, start on 0.25ml buprenorphine 0.3mg/ml BID x 3 days and 1.2ml clavamox oral BID x 10 days. Gave first dose of each at this time. VC scheduled for tomorrow
Skin: has some dandruff
Hair Coat: matted around anus – shaved
Declawed: no
Behavior: very friendly, allowed all handling

S: BAR cat with wound in R hip area
O: BAR cat. Approximately 2cm open wound with irregular edges distal to lateral point of R hip. This wound is open to the muscle layer in the cranial portion of the wound and accommodates approximately 1cm of dead space. There are healing areas of smaller wounds on the perimeter of this wound.
A: full thickness skin wound with an area extending to muscle layer.
P: after sedation with 0.1 cc Telazol (100 mg/ml) IM, anesthesia is maintained via mask with 2.5%Isoflurane and 1.5L O2 flow. Following aseptic preparation of the wound area, it is copiously flushed with dilute CHX solution and warmed 0.9%NaCl. A Penrose drain is placed with a pursetring suture using 3-0 Monosorb (in absence of non-absorbable material). The skin wound is closed in a simple interrupted pattern using 3-0 Monosorb (in absence of non-absorbable material). 0.22 cc meloxicam (5mg/ml) administered SC. A light layer of SSD is applied to the wound area.
Consider switching to Buprenex SR (0.15 cc SC) on 02/06/16.
Drain removal on 02/08/16 or 02/09/16, depending on presence of drainage from wound area.
Suture integrity check on 02/09/16.
Suture removal on 02/14/16, unless wound appears well -apposed on 02/12/16. Recommend E-collar placement.

Genesee came to the shelter as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment. Upon intake, Genesee was friendly and allowed all handling.
Reaction to assessor: Genesee is lying mid-cage, soft and relaxed.
Reaction when softly spoken to: Genesee looks at the assessor and chirps.
Reaction to cage door opening: Genesee remains soft and relaxed, chirping and purring.
Reaction to touch: Genesee leans into touch and rolls over, enjoys petting.
Reaction to pick up: Genesee is calm during this type of handling.

Genesee does not approach the assessor, but enjoys petting and allows all handling. Please note that Genesee is being treated for a wound at the time of the assessment, and this may affect the behaviors shown. Genesee is exhibiting behavior suited to average cat parents.
