11/22/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Gene was brought in without information on her behavioral tendencies in her previous home. She attempted to run and hide during intake and didn’t like being picked up. The medical team reports she was tense and nervous during her initial medical exam, attempting to flee, but she allowed handling to be conducted. The enrichment team reports she was curled up tightly by the back of her kennel, but makes some eye contact during their first interaction. She allowed petting all over her body, but flinched a little, uncomfortable and tense. She displayed the same behaviors the following day, but appeared a little tenser. Reaction to assessor: Gene was squeezed in the back corner and her face was buried underneath her blanket. Reaction when softly spoken to: Gene’s body stiffens and her ears tilt sideways, but she doesn’t turn around to face the assessor. Reaction to cage door opening: Gene lifts her head slightly, but continues to look away. Reaction to touch: Gene is tense when pet gently on her head and body, but she slowly turns to face the assessor. She lip licks and had soft eyes during the interaction, leaning in slightly for cheek rubs, but her body posture remains low against the ground. Behavior Determination: Experienced Gene appreciates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
