GEM – A1073071
Gone - 5-14-2016 Manhattan
***GONE 05/14/16*** TUXEDO BOY NEEDS SECOND CHANCE! Gem is a 2 year old tuxedo baby, who found himself being shoved into a cold cage at the shelter when his previous owners were evicted. He was born “at home” and lived with other cats and teenage children. Gem is a bit stressed at the shelter, and with good reason. He must sense what awaits him TOMORROW AT NOON: DEATH. He’s been given an EXPNOCHILD rating. This poor boy allows handling, but is tense and the ACC want to kill him for his fear. Please don’t let Gem’s young life end so tragically. Contact the Help Desk at [email protected] to pull him to safety RIGHT NOW!

05/10/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
05/10/16 09:53 Basic Info: Gem A1073071 is a 2yr old male black & white DSH feline that was born at home & is being surrendered due to the owner being evicted. Gem was last seen by a veterinarian in 2015 and currently has no known health issues/injuries. Socialization: Around strangers Gem is shy for a few minutes. He lived with other cats and two teenagers & was gentle, exuberant, relaxed/affectionate & playful with them and the adult. Gem hasn’t bitten/scratched any person or animal. Behavior: Gem sprays around the home (when the females are “in heat”). Gem is quiet during car rides. He isn’t bothered by the following: being picked up/held, bath time, having his nails trimmed or with being placed into a carrier (he’ll jump in on his own). Gem hasn’t been disturbed while sleeping/resting. For a New Family to Know: Gem is described as friendly, affectionate, very playful & talkative (at times) with a medium activity level. When the owner is home Gem follows them around. He enjoys mouse & ball toys and is an indoor only cat that sleeps where ever. Gem eats dry & wet Meow Mix 1-2x a day. He is uncovered litter box trained with clumping litter within. Gem doesn’t have a scratching post & scratches on items in the home but did scratch on the post when he had one. Intake Behavior: Gem had a tense body & soft eyes. He allowed all handling. Gem allowed to be scanned (+), collared & taken pictures of including positioning him during his photo session. Gem didn’t seem to mind being picked up/held much but much rather preferred to hide & was placed into a kennel with ease when he retreated to his litter box.

05/13/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Gem’s former owner stated around strangers he is shy for a few minutes. He lived with other cats and two teenagers & was gentle, exuberant, relaxed/affectionate & playful with them and the adult. Also, described as friendly, affectionate, very playful & talkative (at times) with a medium activity level. Reaction to assessor: Gem looks tense in the cage when approached by the assessor. Reaction to door opening: Gem remains couched flat directly on top of all paws, alert with pupils dilated. Reaction to touch: Gem lip licks in place, body stiffens up during the touch and shows no interest to the stroke. Placement determination: Experience / no child Gem tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
