08/15/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: During intake Carrot was timid and didn’t allow handling. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Nervous. Good for all medical handling. Did not hiss, strike, or try to bite. Did not need net to restrain. ENRICHMENT NOTES: 08/13/17 Sitting crouched in back of kennel, ears forward. She sniffs my hand, then lowers her body as I begin to gently pet her. Tolerates petting along her head and body while tensing and wrapping her tail around her feet. Retreats through portal with continued interaction. Nervous, needs time to adjust. 08/14/17 Comes forward slowly as I approach. Body is low and she’s making eye contact. She backs away when I open the cage door and retreats from my hand when touched, eyes squinting. She pokes her head out through her portal and comes forward again to sniff my hand. Ears are forward and movements are slow and unsure. She’s not interested in the treats I place down at the moment. Retreats again when touched. Comes forward to eat the treats after I’ve closed the kennel door. She’s curious but nervous and unsure, needs more time to adjust. 08/15/17 Crouched near the back of the cage, slowly comes forward when coaxed. Leans forward to sniff, her eyes dart around; hesitant of contact. Slow blinks and leans away when I extend my hand forward. She accepts brief contact then retreats to the back of the cage with her tail lowered. She dodges my hand and lowers her body when attempting to pet her again. Alert and wary. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Timid, Affectionate, Sweet POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Fearful – Gee has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced, adult home only – Gee tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home.Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
