Exam Type BEHAVIOR
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Steady VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Independent MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 6/1/17- Fractious, limited handling, ENRICHMENT NOTES: 6/1/17- In den on approach, hissed and spat when spoken to. Briefly stuck head out to sniff assess-a-hand, grumbling. Allowed brief touch on face, then withdrew again. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Garfield remains neutral distance, lying down on her cage bedding. Reaction to cage door opening: Garfield lifts head up, normal shape pupils, soft body. Reaction to touch: Garfield at first, sniffs the assessor’s hand then softly meows, but in the attempt to petting her, she quickly sat up and repeatedly swatted followed by a hiss. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Garfield is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She is stressed in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
