Hello, my name is Frosty. My animal id is #16836. I am a desexed male champagne cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 9 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a stray on 24-Dec-2017.

Frosty is at risk for medical reasons. Frosty is a geriatric cat who is diabetic and requires medication for this twice per day. We have not conducted a formal behavioral assessment of Frosty, but we have had no reason for concern whilst he has been with us in the shelter.

History :stray cat found in the park, brought in by police Subjective:BAR Observed Behavior -friendly, docile, allowed gentle handling but grumbles a little with added restraint; good appetite, normal urination in box Evidence of Cruelty seen -n Evidence of Trauma seen -n Objective BCS 6/9 EENT: OU-open and clear, mild geriatric changes to lens and iris; AU-clean, no nasal discharge Oral Exam:mm pk, moist; CRT <2 sec; moderate to severe tartar, staining PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: soft, nonpainful, slightly doughy; no palpable abnormalities U/G: neutered male MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, unthrifty hair coat with mild matting over dorsum; mild muscle wasting along spine CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal:grossly normal Assessment 1. Dental disease 2. Geriatric Prognosis:fair to good Plan: -rec’d CBC/chem, if WNL then okay to return SURGERY:neutered
Hx: Possible SCP cat. Already neutered; scheduled for ear tipping today. S: Alert, comes to front of kennel, meows and allows initial handling. Yowls on restraint for abd palp and auscultation. O: BAR, BCS 4/9 with muscle wasting, MMs pink EENT: No discharge OU, AU, nose. Unable to examine teeth. PLNs: Not significantly enlarged. H/L: NSR, NMA. Eupnic, quiet lung sounds. Abd: Moderately distended, soft, nonpainful M/S/I: Amb x4. Muscle wasting. No skin lesions noted. UG: Male neutered Neuro: Alert and appropriate, no sign neurological deficiencies A: Underweight, muscle wasting, distended abdomen Short-term prognosis: Fair P: Run CBC/chem to better evaluate health prior to ear tipping and release 1088
Hx: obese geriatric cat with good appetite, unthrifty coat, and muscle wasting; blood work available for review CBC-mild to moderate non regenerative anemia (24%), mild neutrophilia, mild lymphopenia Chemistry-moderate hyperglycemia (354) slightly low BUN (14), low ALT A 1. Hyperglycemia-r/o diabetes mellitus vs other 2. Anemia-chronic disease secondary to DM vs other P -urinalysis to confirm glucosuria -start glargine 1 U SQ, may need to increase dose due to size -recommend meal feeding twice daily only with insulin -will feed RC gastrointestinal canned food during stay -prognosis: good with treatment; with strict dietary management and glargine insulin twice daily, there is a good chance of remission to non insulin dependent state
S/O -BAR, friendly and interactive, allows gentle handling but grumbles with added restraint/handling -good appetite this morning -mm pk, sl tacky -no nasal discharge or sneezing -OU: open and clear, immature cataracts, age related changes to iris -eupnic -soft, slightly doughy abdomen A 1. Diabetes mellitus P -150 ml SQF SID x 3 days -glargine (lantus) insulin 1 U SQ BID, recommend BG curve in 10-14 days -recommend twice daily meal feeding with DM
Urinalysis from this morning showed 4+ glucosuria, 2+ protein, 3+ leukocytes, USG 1.042; ketone negative A 1. Glucosuria-consistent with diabetes mellitus 2. Leukocytes in urine-r/o contamination due to free catch sample vs lab error vs UTI P -start insulin therapy -convenia injection 0.7 ml SQ
RHL medial saphenous blood draw using a 22g butterfly needle set and syringe. CBC/chemistry panel running.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: Resting at the front, soft eyes and body, leaned forward to sniff hand between the bars. Lay in place when door opened, leaned into pets, purred. Ate treats from my hand.
