***SAFE 10/31/16*** FIFI WAS DUMPED DUE TO SOILING OUT OF THE LITTER BOX… BUT HAVE THE STEPS BEEN TAKEN TO MAKE IT EASIER…OR WAS IT BECAUSE OF FEAR OR AVOIDING THE CAT AND DOG THAT SHE LIVED WITH? Only FIFI knows! She’s SPAYED, she had just been treated for IBD, but her owner isn’t willing to continue to find out what is the problem. However, we do not know at what point the dog and cat came into the home. Since 2 year old FIFI was found by the owners as a kitten, it’s very likely that she was scared or wanted to avoid the cat or dog. Has the previous owner even thought of litter box placement? Both those reasons may have been the problem. But instead of getting to the root of the “problem,” these owners decided to drop her off at the nearest HIGH KILL SHELTER! Now, she needs a quiet home with no kids, and someone who can work with her potty issue and perhaps see another vet! Offer to FOSTER OR ADOPT FIFI today!

10/21/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
10/21/16 12:37 Basic Information: Fifi is a 2 year old domestic short hair. She was found as a stray when she was a kitten. She was surrendered because she has been showing litter box avoidance. The last time she went to the vet was October 6th 2016. Socialization: Around strangers Fifi is friendly and outgoing and when she plays with adults she is exuberant. She lived with children ages 5 and 4 and with them she was relaxed and affectionate and somewhat rough at play. She spent time with a 2 year old female cat and was very tolerant. She also spent time with a 3 year old Yorkie and with her she was respectful. Behavior: Fifi has never attempted to bite a person or animal. She meows during car rides. For the past 6 months she has been pooping and peeing outside of the litter box. She was taken to the vet and received medical care in October; however she has still been urinating outside of her litter box still in the past month. She isn’t bothered if her nails are trimmed, if she is picked up, or disturbed while sleeping. She enjoys having her coat brushed and is afraid of being placed in a carrier. For a New Family to Know: Fifi is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident and quiet with a medium activity level. The two things her previous owner liked most about her were; she’s affectionate and calm. When her previous owner was home she would tend to follow her around. She likes to play with string and stuffed toys. She was kept indoors only and at night she slept in her cat bed or her previous owner’s bed. She ate both wet and dry hills prescription diet. She is litter box trained and used an uncovered litter box and clumping litter. She scratched on a vertical scratching post made of smooth wood and carpet. Behavior during intake: Fifi had a low crouched body. She allowed me to pet her and would head-butt. She attempted to hide and flee. Her body was tense but she allowed me to collar her and take her picture. she showed no signs of aggression.

10/23/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Fifi’s previous owner reports she is friendly and outgoing around strangers and is exuberant when playing with adults. She has lived with children and was relaxed and affectionate with them, but can be somewhat rough at play. She was very tolerant with another female cat and was respectful with a Yorkie. She was described as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, and quiet with a medium activity level. Her owner really liked how affectionate and calm she was. She tends to follow the owner around at home and play with strings and stuffed toys. Reaction to assessor: Fifi was lying down, calm and relaxed upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Fifi looks at the assessor and blinks softly. Reaction to cage door opening: Fifi becomes slightly alert, but remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Fifi was hesitant, but inches forward and sniffs the assessor’s hand. She accepts petting and warms up a little, leaning in for cheek rubs and arching her back, but she becomes tense when touched on her back and starts to growl. Fifi’s previous owner reports she has been eliminating outside her litter box for the past 6 months. She has been to the vet and received medical treatment for inflammation of the intestines. The owner noticed she stopped defecating outside her litter box, but continues to have urination accidents. We are unaware of what, if any, modifications steps were taken to try and address this behavior in the home, so we cannot be sure what the trigger may have been or if this behavior may continue in a future home. However, we recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litter box should this behavior continue in a home environment. Behavior Determination: Experienced, No Children Fifi tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
