EVERLY – A1099139
Safe - 1-28-2017 Brooklyn
***SAFE 01/28/17*** Everly is a lovely senior lady who’s ready to retire to a peaceful forever home! During intake she was relaxed and open to being petted, but she’s a little unsure of the shelter environment right now and may need experienced adopter to help her settle in.

12/11/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Everly was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. She had a relaxed body upon intake, greeting the counselor by the front and was receptive to petting. However, the medical team reported she was growling and hissing during her initial medical exam. She only allowed limited handling. Reaction to assessor: Everly was resting with her head down on her blanket. Reaction when softly spoken to: Everly looks at the assessor and blinks sleepily. Reaction to cage door opening: Everly remains soft and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Everly flinches slightly initially, but seems to appreciate head and cheek rubs. She becomes tense when touched on her body, however, and hisses and whines after a few strokes. She does not display any further reaction, but hisses when petting on her head was attempted again. Reaction to pick up: Behavior Determination: Experienced, No Children Everly appeared to appreciate attention, but after a few soft passed over the body she begins to hiss and whine at the assessor. This may be a sign of petting-induced aggression, where repeated physical contact results in discomfort for the cat. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Everly becomes reactive. Treats should be used to reward appropriate responses to physical attention. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
