***SAFE 12/05/17 *** Elsa is a sweet little guy that came to us with a kitty cold. He is negative for Felv/FIV and he appears to be eating well.

Hello, my name is Elsa. My animal id is #14251. I am a male black kitten at the Staten Island Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 5 months 1 weeks old. – P
I came into the shelter as a stray on 21-Nov-2017.
Elsa 14251 is at risk due to being diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection and will likely require home rest and a series of antibiotics for up to 14 days. This is a contagious illness to other cats. Elsa would do best with a cat experienced family.

[DVM Intake] DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: 5 months History : stray Subjective: Observed Behavior -tense but tolerated exam Evidence of Cruelty seen -no Evidence of Trauma seen -no Objective BCS 5/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, slight clear nasal discharge noted Oral Exam: deciduous teeth PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupneic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: MI, 2 descended testicles MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment nasal discharge- R/O URI vs other Prognosis: good Plan: continue doxycycline discontinue erythromycin SURGERY: Temporary waiver due to URI
[Spay/Neuter Waiver – Upper Respiratory Illness] Your newly adopted animal is in treatment for an upper respiratory illness. The veterinarian is temporarily waiving this animal from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY until such time as the illness has resolved and the pet has sufficiently recovered. At that time, this animal must come into compliance with the spay/neuter requirements.

Behavior Condition: 2. Blue
Upon intake, cat appeared nervous in the trap but, allowed some petting. Initially transferred from trap to carrier without any issues then fled as the door was closing. Appreciates petting and allowed collaring & scanning for a microchip once back in the carrier.

KNOWN HISTORY:: Elsa was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: tense but tolerated exam
Cage Condition:: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:: Elsa is laying in the back of her kennel on top of her bed. She looks up at assessor.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Elsa jumps down from her bed and moves slightly towards the front of the kennel and lays in a low, crouched body position.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Elsa appears alert. Her eyes dart around the room. She remains in a low and crouched position. Her tail is wrapped around her.
Reaction to touch:: Elsa remains calm as assessor approaches her. She very slightly leans in for chin rubs and seems to enjoy being pet. She allows petting all over.
Reaction to being picked up:: Elsa is tense when being picked up but allows assessor to handle her for a short period of time before going back inside her kennel and towards the back of the cage.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Elsa may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
