Details on my behavior are…
Behavior Condition: 2. Blue
Basic Information:: Two cats were found on persons porch inside of a pillow case with no information. Cats allowed handling but were not very comfortable with handling according to the officers.
KNOWN HISTORY:: Eggs was brought in as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: 2/6/18 Observed Behavior – gentle, timid
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 2/7/18 Curled up at back of cubby, soft eyes and body. Became alert when door opened, eyes dilated, started breathing faster, then hissed. Sniffed assess-a-hand, then tolerated pets, but remained tense, started lip licking. Slowly started to eat treats after door closed. 2/8/18 Crouched in top cubby, tense, eyes dilated. Hissed when door opened, sat up, shifted away. Sniffed assess-a-hand, then started lip licking. Tolerated pets, but put ears sideways, clearly uncomfortable. 2/11/18 Curled up at back of cubby, eyes dilated. Sat up when spoken to, hissed and whined. Hissed again when door opened, then started eating offered treats. Tolerated pets while eating, then flattened ears, retreated to back of cubby. Easily lured out to shelf with more treats, but immediately returned to cubby when done eating. 2/12/18 In cubby, tense, peeking out to main compartment. Hissed and withdrew on approach. Stood and continued hissing when door opened, but then started eating offered treats. Hissed and flattened ears when touched, but tolerated all pets. 2/14/18 Sitting upright on approach, eyes wide open, pupils dilated at the back of the cage cubby. He remains wary with his surroundings, but accepts the touch and slowly leaned into the petting, but unsure. 2/15/18 [Clicker Training] Very nervous upon approach and will sit up and lean against the back wall, looking around. He does show interest in treats and ate them as I was charging the clicker and was rewarded whenever I pet him. After a few reps, he stopped eating the treat. He head-butted gently though when my hand was left in front of his head! He continued to allow cheek and chin rubs and began to purr. Still very nervous, but just needs more positive reinforcement. 2/15/18 Improvement! Curled up at back of cubby, eyes dilated, alert. Gaze softened after being quietly spoken to for a while, then became alert again when door opened. Lay in place, tense, sniffed hand, then actually leaned into pets! Extended neck for throat scratches, closed eyes. No interest in treats today. 2/18/18 Diagnosed with URI, moved to iso. Resting in litter box, eyes a little dilated, soft posture. Started meowing repeatedly on approach. Lay in place when door opened, still meowing, some lip licking. Quieted when touched, started to lean into pets, purred, drooled! Ate offered treats after door closed, resumed meowing. 2/19/18 Resting behind litter box, soft posture, eyes a little dilated. Stood and started meowing on approach. Came forward when door opened, tried to sniff hand, audibly congested. Leaned into pets, purred, started drooling profusely. Ok
Cage Condition:: No change
Reaction to assessor:: Eggs remains crouched position in his cage cubby during the approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Eggs becomes alert with eyes wide open, pupils dilated.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Eggs hisses, sits upright, looking around while slowly increases distance.
Reaction to touch:: Eggs looks away from the assessor’s hand, ears turned sideways, but accepts the touch while lip licking in place.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Timid,Independent
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Eggs may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to his new home and family at his own pace.
