Details on my behavior are…
Behavior Condition: 3. Yellow
KNOWN HISTORY:: Easy was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Attempted to flee, very nervous, mild hissing
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 12/17/17 Crouched in back of kennel with a tense body. Hisses as I reach forward and then swats the bear-claw out of the way before it can touch him. Shifts weight and wraps tail around his body. Needs more time to adjust. 12/18/17 Lying in back of kennel with a tense body. Makes eye contact and flattens ears, hisses when spoken to. Continues to growl. Doesn’t eat treats offered. Limited interaction due to stress. 12/19/17 Crouched in the back of the kennel, tail wrapped at side. Looks uncomfortable and turns away when spoken to softly. His eyes dart around the kennel and he slowly shifts away when I extend my hand out. He arches his body and hisses, but tolerates gently petting along his body with a slow approach. He flinches slightly, continues hissing and slowly retreats to the other side of the double kennel.
Cage Condition:: Cage is re-arranged
Reaction to assessor:: Easy was pressed up against the back wall of the kennel with his ears bend flat and his tail wrapped around his body.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Easy keeps his eyes focused on the assessor’s movements and hissed when he tried coaxing him forward.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Easy remains tense and alert.
Reaction to touch:: Easy’s eyes dart around the kennel and he slowly shifts away as the assessor extends his hand out. He arches his body and hisses, but tolerates gently petting along his body with a slow approach. He flinches slightly, continues hissing and slowly retreats to the other side of the double kennel.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Skittish,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: Easy has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
RECOMMENDATIONS:: None
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Easy tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
