Hello, my name is Duster. My animal id is #10537. I am a desexed male gray cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 7 years 2 weeks old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 23-Oct-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- cannot afford to care for.
Duster is being placed at risk due to an Upper respiratory Infection which is contagious to other cats. Duster will likely require in home care with a course of antibiotics. There are no known behavior concerns for Duster at this time (Average behavior).

Duster had a low tense body but allowed me to collar and pet him. He relaxed when held.

Basic Information:: Duster is a 7 year old gray DSH. He was bought from a pet store when he was a kitten. He was surrendered because his previous owner could no longer care for him. He has not been to the vet but has no known injuries or healthy concerns.
Previously lived with:: 2 adults, 2 dogs (1 large 1 small)
How is this cat around strangers?: Around strangers, Duster is is shy for about 1 hour. He does not play withy adults.
How is this cat around children?: Duster has not spent time with children.
How is this cat around other cats?: Duster has not lived with cats but is an indoor outdoor cat and sometimes he spends time with community cats and visits another cat at their window.
How is this cat around dogs?: Duster lived with 2 dogs, one small 2 year old and 1 large 1 year old. With the small breed he was affectionate and would rub himself on him but for the most part he would ignore him. With the large dog who was very playful and would attempt to play with Duster, Duster would run away and swat at him but mainly keep his distance.
Behavior Notes: Duster struggles and cries when given baths. If his coat is brushed he attacks the brush. She isn’t bothered if she is picked up, placed in a carrier, or disturbed while sleeping.
Bite history:: Duster has never bitten a person or animal.

Medical Notes: Duster has no known medical concerns and has never been to a vet.
For a New Family to Know: Duster is described as friendly, affection, independent and quite. The two things his previous owner liked most about him was he is quite and seeks attention on his own terms. When his previous owner was home he would tend to be in his favorite spot. He doesn’t like to play with conventional toys he plays with platos wraps. Duster has a free choice with an open window and is usually outside all day walking around the neighborhood. He likes to sleep up high usually on the cabinet or fridge. He ate dry Alley cat and does not like wet food. He is litter box trained and used clumping litter and had an uncovered litter box. He did not have a scratching post because he rarely scratch and when he did he used a wooden door frame.

Reaction to assessor:: Duster remains neutral, lying down on his kuranda bed during the approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Duster seems curious and stands with tail up.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Duster slowly engages, eyes wide open, ears erect and forward.
Reaction to touch:: Duster slowly sniffs and leans into the assessor’s hand, but focuses on his surroundings. He then increases distance when he hears sudden noises.
Reaction to being picked up:: He becomes antsy then jumps back into the cage.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back
VOCAL:: Quiet
