01/04/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Dock’s previous owner states he is a shy cat. When children and strangers are around, he keeps to himself and is respectful. He has to warm up to someone before being approached by them. He has limited experience around cats and will hiss and growl when they are around. He does not like being around dogs; he hisses, growls, and may attempt to swat at them. He was kept mostly indoors and has a high activity level; however he is relaxed when he is in his own space. Reaction to Assessor: Dock was inside a hidey den upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Dock does not display a reaction. Reaction to cage door opening: Dock remains motionless. Reaction to touch: When the assessor turns the den around to have a visual on Dock, he becomes alert and begins to grumble. However, he sniffs the assessor’s hand when extended. He allows all petting and leans into petting at times, but he seems extremely wary of the environment and would lip lick. Placement Determination: Experience No Child Dock tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
