SAFE 6/26/18 Diego was surrendered to the center because the owner stated that she cannot take care of her anymore. The owner’s son said that he would have kept her but his daughter is allergic. He is already neutered. Diego has some dental issues that need follow up care. He was brought in with a housemate.

The owner never gave Diego a bath nor tried to trim his nails therefore behavior is unknown. He enjoys when his coat is being brushed and being picked up and held. He is not bothered when he is put in a carrier.

His favorite toys are balls and strings. He was kept indoors only. He used to sleep on a chair. He eats both wet food and dry food and was fed three times a day. He is litter box trained and used an uncovered one with clumping litter. He used to have a scratching post but did not use it.

Observed Behavior -calm, allows exam.

Eating food near the back of the kennel. Perks up when spoken to softly. Gives head butts, leans in for rubs on cheeks. Tail rises, purrs and allows petting all over. Doing great!

Diego is lying on top of his perch as the assessor approaches with a relaxed body, ears forward.
Reaction when softly spoken to:
Diego begins to knead the floor with his front paws when spoken to softly.
Reaction to cage door opening:
Diego jumps off of his bed as the cage door opens and steps forward to greet the assessor, chirping and then head-butting the kennel door.
Reaction to touch:
Diego allows petting while leaning in and raising his tail. Tail quivers as he begins to purr.
Reaction to being picked up:
Diego allows assessor to pick him up, body becoming tense. He head-butts the assessor’s hand when placed back into the kennel.
