ENRICHMENT NOTES:
11/21/17
Lying in front of kennel with tense body. Opens eyes and makes eye contact when spoken to, eyes widening as he begins to rapid breathe. Not interested in treats at the moment. He tolerates gentle petting with a slow approach along his head and body while leaning away and flattening his ears. Needs more time to adjust. Sprayed feliway.
12/10/17
Lying on top of kuranda bed with a low, tense body. Hisses when I reach towards him and tolerates petting initially while tilting ears and turning head to watch my hand. He begins to sniff my hand curiously and leans in gently for head-rubs. After a few more moments of petting he begins to raise his rear in the air and roll over onto his side. Comes forward for treats. Rolls around kuranda bed and raises his head to head-butt my hand while purring softly. Not confident enough yet to jump down from kuranda bed, he stays where he’s comfortable. Did great today – has potential to warm up quickly. Standing on top of kuranda bed and vocalizing after interaction has ended.
12/11/17
Lying on top of kuranda bed, body low. Makes eye contact with ears forward. He comes forward as I reach towards him and leans into petting. Allows touch along head and body while leaning in and raising his rear. Rolls over onto side and turns head to head-butt my hand. He stands up with continued petting and raises his tail. I pick him up and bring him to the front of the kennel – easy to hold – and continue to pet him. He steps forward with his tail raised and begins to purr. Does great once approached – showing improvement daily! Ate all treats given.
12/12/17
Lying on top of kuranda bed, body and face soft. Makes eye contact with ears forward. He flinches and lowers his body as cage door opens, ears flattening. He relaxes when I place my hand on his bed and he scoots forward to head-butt my hand. Allows petting along his head and body while leaning in and rolling over onto his side. I am able to coax him off of his bed with treats and after he’s jumped down and finished eating he still remains in the front of his kennel to allow further petting, leaning in with his tail raised. Gains confidence and comes right to the edge of his kennel to head-butt my hand. Feeling brave today! Showing improvement daily. Sprayed feliway.
12/13/17
Standing towards front of kennel, body soft and tail raised halfway. He crouches down as the cage door opens, then stands back up and head-butts my hand as I reach towards him. He leans in for petting, stepping right to edge of his kennel with his tail raised. Purrs and rolls over onto his side. Makes eye contact with soft eyes. Remains in front of his kennel and allows all petting for duration of session. Gaining confidence every day – doing great!
12/14/17
Lying on top of kuranda bed with a low body. Hisses when spoken to. He relaxes when the cage door opens, ears shifting forward, and he scoots forward to nudge my hand when I reach towards him. He allows petting along his head and body while raising his tail and leaning in. Wary of surroundings, pauses to look around each time the door to the room opens or when he hears a loud noise. Focuses back on interaction when pet. Playing with pipe cleaner toy after interaction has ended. Doing great!
12/17/17
Standing in back of kennel, ears forward and tail raised. He steps forward as I open the kennel door and allows petting along his head and body while leaning in, tail raised. Begins to purr softly. He backs away when he hears a loud noise or when someone new enters the room. Then turns around and head-butts my hand, coming back to the front. Very sweet and affectionate, allows all petting for duration of session. Timid little guy, appreciates attention once approached. Doing well!
12/18/17
Lying on top of kuranda bed with a relaxed body, ears forward. Makes eye contact when spoken to. He remains on his bed as the cage door opens and allows petting along his head and body, warming up and leaning in as soon as he’s touched. He gains confidence after a few moments and jumps down off of his bed, coming forward with his tail raised. He allows further petting while leaning in raising his tail. Purrs and makes eye contact with soft eyes. Doing great!
12/19/17
Standing in back of kennel, tail wrapped around feet and ears forward. Makes eye contact. He comes forward hesitantly as I open the cage door and head-butts my hand as I reach towards him. His tail raises and he leans in for further petting. Begins to purr. Allows all petting for duration of session, rolling over onto his side. Allows petting all over his body. Doing great!
12/20/17
Standing in back of kennel, eyes bright and ears forward. He comes forward with a raised tail when spoken to. He remains in front of his kennel as the cage door opens and allows petting along his head and body while leaning in and rolling over onto his side. POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:
Kitten socialization
Potential challenges comments:
Delight is a young cat that may not have had many interactions with humans from an early age. He may be apprehensive of people, but the behavior team believes he has potential to warm up to people. Kittens less than 8 weeks of age can be socialized by almost anyone; however, kittens between 2-4 months may require more time and skill in order for them to be comfortable around people. Please speak to an adoption counselor to learn more about socialization techniques.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:
Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar
TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:
Delight appreciates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He will most likely need time to warm up to his new home and family. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
