DAWN – 29762
Safe - 6-17-2018 Brooklyn
SAFE 6/17/18 Dawn is a 4 year old female spayed cat. she has been with the owner since a kitten. The owner moved to a no pets building. There are no injuries or health concerns. She saw a vet back in 2015. A volunteer writes: This small gray girl needs a little bit of time and space to warm up, but she is very curious, and if you are patient she rewards you with some attention. When I first opened her kennel she was curled up in the back and not ready to say hello yet. I brought out a toy and she watched it closely and sniffed it when it came close to her. I then stepped away for a minute, and when I turned around again, she was at the front of the kennel. I opened the door again and sure enough she wanted some gentle head scratches. Dawn is a cautious and watchful girl, but I think with time and comfort in her surroundings she would be a loving companion.
DAWN is a 4 year old spayed girl whose owner dumped at the shelter. She is extremely upset and not allowing handling at the moment. She needs a new home where she can chill out and relax.

Potential challenges comments:
Dawn has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
