Davinci is a 2 year old neutered male DSH that has no past or current medical issues that the owner is aware of. Owner has had Davinci for 2 weeks but had to surrender due to house soiling. Davinci was adopted from BACC.
Socialization:
Davinci has never been around strangers, or other animals while in the care of the owner so behavior is unknown. He has never bit another person or animal while owner has had him.
Behavior:
Davinci is not bothered by being in a car, having his coat brushed, being picked up/held, being put into a carrier or if someone disturbs him while sleeping. Owner has never tried to give Davinci a bath or trim his nails so behavior is unknown.
For a New Family to Know:
Davinci is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, and quiet. He has a low activity level and enjoys playing with all types of toys. In the home, he preferred to stay in his favorite spot but would follow the owner around from time to time. Davinci was kept indoors only but is not litter box trained. He would has daily accidents where he would urinate all over the house. Davinci used both an uncovered and covered litter box in the home with clumping litter. Owner did not have a scratching post in the home and stated that Davinci would scratch on the carpet.
Behavior during intake: Davinci was relaxed and rubbing against the carrier during intake. Counselor was able to scan for a mc, collar and take a picture without any issues.

Continues to use his box appropriately here (both defecation and urination). Always happy for attention. Totally adorable.
EVALUATION:
Cage Condition: Cage is slightly re-arranged
Reaction to assessor: Davinci approaches the front and is calm, relaxed, and friendly.
Reaction when softly spoken to: Davinci solicits attention and rubs against the cage door.
Reaction to cage door opening: Davinci greets the assessor at the opening.
Reaction to touch: Davinci head-butts lightly, leans in for petting, and begins to purr. He is very sweet and will continue to rub against the assessor when petting stops.
Reaction to being picked up: Davinci remains calm and allows handling.
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate
VOCAL: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: Social, Sweet
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:
– Inappropriate elimination – Davinci’s previous owners report that he was urinating outside the litter box for the two weeks they had him. He was seen by a veterinarian and has no known medical issues. The previous owners report trying to put the litter box in various places, cleaning the litter box multiple times throughout the day, nd using different litter but the inappropriate elimination behavior has continued. We advise potential adopters to be aware that this behavior may continue in a home environment, and that they be comfortable with management and modification techniques for this behavioral challenge.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
– Experienced cat parent – Davinci interacts with the Assessor, solicits attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. Although he is displaying behavior appropriate for a beginner cat parent, because his previous adopter reports he has been having litter box accidents, we recommend Davinci go to a home with experienced cat owners who is comfortable with modification techniques
