***SAFE 03/21/16 *** Poor DARWIN was DUMPED because the owner could no longer afford his care! Otherwise known as -SELFISHNESS! The 8 month old is not used to being around strangers so the EXPERIENCE rating is clearly because of this cats fearfulness of being shuffled back and forth! Please, offer to FOSTER or ADOPT this kitten. Even this DARWIN is smart enough to know it’s time he got a good home!

03/04/16 09:37 Basic information Darwin was brought in as an owner’s surrender due to owner being unable to care for Darwin financially. Owner has had Darwin for the past three months, after receiving him from a friend. Owner says Darwin does not have any injuries or health concerns, but notes that he has not been to the vet. Socialization & behavior Darwin is described as being initially shy around new people, but owner says he has not had many strangers around him. Darwin lived with another female cat, and owner says the two were playful and loving to each other. Darwin has not spent time around children or dogs. Owner says there have been no past issues of Darwin biting anyone or another animal. Darwin came to the care center in a car and owner says he was initially vocal but then relaxed. Owner has never attempted to bathe or trim Darwin’s nails. Darwin is said to enjoy being brushed, but will eventually struggle to get down when held. Darwin is said to be easily placed into carriers, and unbothered if disturbed while sleeping. For a new Family to Know Darwin is described as friendly, playful, and mellow with a medium activity level. When home Darwin is normally following his owner, and enjoys stuffed mice toys. Darwin was kept indoors only, and fed different brands of dry food. Darwin is litter-box trained and has an uncovered litter-box. Darwin scratched on owner’s bike tire, and a small carpet scratching pad. Behavior during Intake Darwin was slightly afraid during intake. He attempted to hide in the client’s carrier, and had dilated pupils. Once removed Darwin allowed petting, but stills seemed slightly uncomfortable with the contact. Darwin allowed all handling and showed no signs of aggression during intake.

Darwin’s previous owner reports he is initially shy around new people. He has not had many interactions with strangers, but he has lived with a female cat and the two were playful and loving to each other. He enjoys being brushed and allows people to hold him, but will eventually struggle to get down. He is described as friendly, playful, and mellow with a medium activity level. He normally follows the owner around the home and enjoys playing with stuffed mice toys. Reaction to assessor: Darwin was calm and relaxed upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Darwin looks at the assessor briefly, and then averts his gaze. Reaction to cage door opening: Darwin becomes tense and alert. Reaction to touch: Darwin sniffs the assessor’s hand and slowly retreats to the back. He allows petting with a slow approach and closes his eyes and lip licks. Behavior Determination: Experience Darwin tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
