02/06/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Dannie was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. Her finder reports she allowed them to handle her. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage rearranged Reaction to assessor: Dannie looks at the assessor – is somewhat stiff. Reaction when softly spoken to: Dannie continues to look at the assessor. Reaction to cage door opening: Dannie stiffens slightly, and her eyes become dilated. Reaction to touch: Dannie tolerates the touch, but turns away from the assessor. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Allowed all handling but tense throughout ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Skittish RECOMMENDATIONS: _x_ Experienced cat parent POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: _x_ Fearful Dannie has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Experienced Please note that Dannie is being treated for an upper respiratory infection at the time of the behavior assessment. This condition may affect some of the behaviors shown during evaluation. Dannie tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
