10/30/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Dana was brought in without information on her behavioral tendencies in her previous home. She displayed nervous behaviors during her initial medical exam and attempted to flee, displaying distance-increasing behaviors during handling. The enrichment facilitator reports she was wide-eyed when approached for their first interaction. She inches forward and sniffs their hand when softly spoken to, and will head-butt lightly after a moment. She leaned in for cheek rubs and seems to appreciate petting, arching her back when pet on her body, but she focuses on movement in the environment. During the second day, she was initially nervous, but became very affectionate during the interaction. She flinches and hunches over when someone enters the room, but leaned in for petting and purred. Reaction to assessor: Dana was lying down, calm and relaxed upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Dana lifts her rear and gently rubs against the wall as she approaches the front. Reaction to cage door opening: Dana becomes slightly alert, but remains calm. Reaction to touch: Dana head-butts lightly and leans in for petting. She begins to purr and arches her back when touched on her body, but looks around her surroundings during the interaction. Reaction to being picked up: Dana remains calm and allows handling, but will leap back into her kennel with any sudden noise. Behavior Determination: Experienced Dana tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
