08/20/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Cyborg was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: tense, tolerated exam when restrained ENRICHMENT NOTES: 08/17/17 Immediately starts to hiss upon approach and shifts away in an attempt to hide. Attempts to escape as the cage door opens and dodges petting. Really fearful of interaction. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is re-arranged Reaction to assessor: Cyborg is laying in the back of her kennel with littermates. She makes eye contact with the assessor. Reaction when softly spoken to: Cyborg continues to watch assessor closely and lay in the back of her kennel. Reaction to cage door opening: Cyborg hisses at assessor and runs to the other side of her kennel with two of her litter mates. She wraps her tail around her body and appears nervous. Reaction to touch: Cyborg crouches to a low body posture and her ears go down and to the side. She tolerates all petting but her body is tense. Reaction to being picked up: Cyborg allows to be picked up but immediately tries to leap back into her kennel. She goes back to hide behind her littermates and watches assessor carefully. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Lively, Athletic VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Timid, Skittish POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: – Kitten socialization – Cyborg is a young cat that may not have had many interactions with humans from an early age. She may be apprehensive of people, but the behavior team believes she has potential to warm up to people. Kittens less than 8 weeks of age can be socialized by almost anyone; however, kittens between 2-4 months may require more time and skill in order for them to be comfortable around people. Please speak to an adoption counselor to learn more about socialization techniques. RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced, adult only – Cyborg tolerates petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
