10/02/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Cookie’s previous owner reports she is friendly around strangers. She has spent time with young children, but will run away from them. She plays in a gentle manner with adults, but is not playful with young children. She is not bothered by having her nails trimmed, being brushed, picked up, or placed in a carrier. She was best described as friendly, affectionate, and playful with a high activity level. The owner says she welcomes you every morning and responds to her name. Reaction to assessor: Cookie was lying down, calm and relaxed upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Cookie lies on her side and rubs her cheeks against her bedding. Reaction to cage door opening: Cookie becomes alert and looks around her surroundings. Reaction to touch: Cookie was a bit hesitant and sniffs the assessor’s hand, but she leans in for petting and rolls over on her back. She seems to really appreciate petting, but is a bit tense throughout the interaction and appears wary of the environment. Reaction to being picked up: Cookie will wiggle to get back on four paws. She retreats to the back with her tail lowered, but will continue to allow petting. Behavior Determination: Experienced Cookie tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may also need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
