**SAFE 07/01/16** How could anyone have abandoned sweet CONVERSE, a 2 year old kitty who is uncertain in the hostile environment of the ACC. This two-tone beauty has been at the shelter since June 15th and her shelter notes indicate that she seems “stressed” by the presence of other cats. It’s also quite possible that the ACC itself, is what’s stressing her—did they ever stop to consider that possibility? Despite her understandable wariness, CONVERSE earned a perfectly awesome EXPERIENCE rating and is ready to chill out in a new home, tomorrow! Than only happens if a FOSTER/ADOPTER is found who can save her life tonight, so please work hard to save her!

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Converse was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. She was found in an apartment building and was sitting in front of a door on the third floor, refusing to leave. She was gentle and sweet upon intake, and allowed handling during her initial medical exam. The enrichment facilitator reports she appeared curious and stays by the front, looking around. She meows and leans in for petting, but becomes anxious when noticing other cats. Reaction to assessor: Converse was calm and relaxed upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Converse stress meows and whines, and appears alert of her surroundings. Reaction to cage door opening: Converse remains by the front. Reaction to touch: Converse sniffs the assessor’s hand and leans in for petting. She begins to purr and seems to really appreciate petting, but becomes distracted when noticing another cat and becomes tense and hisses. She starts to whine again, but seems to relax as the assessor speaks to her and strokes her. Reaction to being picked up: Converse is a bit tense during pick up, but is calm when held. Behavior Determination: Experience Converse tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may need time to warm up to her new home. She may also be uncomfortable around other cats. Because she has been noted to hiss and focus on other cats, we recommend either a one-cat home or a home with adopters experienced with introducing new cats slowly and gradually over a long period of time.
