*** SAFE 3/18/18 COBALT was brought in by some firemen who felt it was too cold for him to be outside. He has a URI, conjunctivitis and a heart murmur. Please give this docile kitty a home!

Hello, my name is Cobalt. My animal id is #17404. I am a desexed male white cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 8 months old. – P

I came into the shelter as a stray on 31-Dec-2017.

ZIP Code From: 10029

Cobalt is at risk due to being diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection, which is contagious to other cats. Cobalt will likely require in home care with a course of antibiotics. There are no behavior concerns for Cobalt at this time, Average determination.

[DVM Intake] DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: 7 months Microchip noted on Intake? positive Microchip Number (If Applicable): History : originally SCP cat that was returned outside; firemen brought him and another SCP cat they found outside to MACC because they thought it was too cold for them Subjective:QAR Observed Behavior -shy but docile and allows all handling Evidence of Cruelty seen -n Evidence of Trauma seen -n Objective BCS 4.5/9 EENT: OU-mild conjunctivitis, ears clean, serous nasal discharge, significant nasopharyngeal congestion Oral Exam:mm pk, tacky; CRT <2 sec; adult dentitia present; deciduous upper canines very loose PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: grade II-III parasternal murmur, eupnic, clear lungs ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: male, recently neutered; neuter site CDI MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, slightly underweight with slightly dirty hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal:grossly normal Assessment 1. URI/conjunctivitis-r/o viral vs bacterial 2. Heart murmur Prognosis:good Plan: -move to isolation -terramycin OU BID x 7 days -100 ml SQF SID x 3 days, first dose given -cerenia 0.3 ml SQ SID x 3 days, first dose given -nebulization SID x 4 days SURGERY:n/a

Cobalt was scheduled for an am tx of LRS. Gave 75 mlSQ Also scheduled for cerenia 10 mg/ml, gave 0.3 ml Sq

Upon intake, Cobalt was trying to flee but allowed all handling. Cobalt quietly meowed when he was held.

KNOWN HISTORY:: Cobalt interacts with the Assessor, solicits attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat can go to a beginner home.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: 12/31/17 Observed Behavior -shy but docile and allows all handling

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: URI. Resting on bedding, soft eyes and body, eating dry food. Lay in place when door opened. Brief hesitation when first touched, then warmed up, leaned and arched into pets. Resumed eating after door closed.

Cage Condition:: No change

Reaction to assessor:: Cobalt remains neutral, lying down on his cage bedding during the approach.

Reaction when softly spoken to:: Cobalt becomes alert with eyes wide open.

Reaction to cage door opening:: Cobalt remains immobile in place, ears erect and forward.

Reaction to touch:: Cobalt seems hesitant, but slowly approaches the front and leans into the assessor’s hand while appreciating the petting.

Reaction to being picked up:: He becomes antsy then jumps back into the cage.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Mellow

VOCAL:: Somewhat chatty

CHARACTER TYPE: : Sweet,Timid

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Average

Behavior Asilomar: H – Healthy

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Cobalt interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
