BEHAVIOR:
KNOWN HISTORY:
Cloe was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
Initially cooperative but became fractious with handling, striking, howling
EVALUATION:
Cage Condition: No change
Reaction to assessor: Cloe was resting on her blanket and comes forward to greet when the assessor approaches.
Reaction when softly spoken to: Cloe meows softly then gently rubs her cheeks up against the kennel door.
Reaction to cage door opening: Cloe continues meowing and waits eagerly by the door.
Reaction to touch: Cloe’s tail pilo erects and starts to sway as she rubs up against the assessor’s hand. She’s very demanding of attention and reaches out to pull the assessor’s hand closer when he stops petting her. Her body feels relaxed and her tail continues to sway, but she doesn’t display any further reaction.
Reaction to being picked up: Cloe was relaxed at first then started meowing loudly to be put down. When placed down she growled than batted at the assessor’s arm (no claws).
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Energetic
VOCAL: Talkative
CHARACTER TYPE: Affectionate, Social, Demanding
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:
Overstimulation – Cloe is social and affectionate but appears to be easily overstimulated. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Cloe becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Experienced, adult home only – solicits attention and tolerates petting but may be assertively demanding of attention or may play roughly. Due to Cloe getting aroused easily, we feel that this cat will do best in an adult only home.
