Recheck tail wound:

BAR BCS 3/9
– mildly dehydrated/skinny BCS

sedated for wound cleaning + evaluation

– healing laceration/skin wound ~ 1-2 cm in length at left side of tail base
– wound was flushed copiously and cleaned with dilute chlorhex solution
– a single medical staple was placed in the middle of the laceration to partially close

– a small healing skin wound (~1 cm) on the plantar surface of the right rear paw was also cleaned

P: cont. with prescribed tx (ATB’s, pain meds) and recheck
+ monitor weight

Oral Exam: teeth in good cond
PLN: No enlargements noted
H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic
ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated
U/G: INTACT male

MSI: 2 cm diameter puncture wound on ventral aspect of the tail. Mild purulent discharge.

Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat
CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities
Rectal: externally normal

Assessment:
1) Puncture wound on ventral aspect of tail
2) Emaciated

Prognosis:

Plan:
– place in medical
– Sedate and flush wound +/- debride and close wound
– Give Simbadol 0.3 ml SQ SID for two days
– Give Onsior 0.3 ml SQ SID for three days
– Give Clavamox Susp 1ml BID for 14 days

Claremont was brought in as a stray, so there is no information on their behavior history or tendencies in a home environment. Upon intake this cat allowed all handling.

Claremont was looking around by the front with almond-shaped eyes.

Reaction when softly spoken to:
Claremont lifts his tail straight up and reaches out gently with his paw. He can be heard purring.

Reaction to cage door opening:
Claremont pops his head out from the opening and looks around.

Reaction to touch:
Claremont accepts petting and purrs. He allows petting all over and continues to look around at his surroundings.

Reaction to being picked up:
Claremont remains soft and leans his head against the assessor for pets.

Upon intake this cat allowed all handling. He allowed being collared and was very receptive to friskies wet food. Due to injury minimal handling was performed and a picture was taken inside of the carrier.
