**SAFE 03/29/16** LOVELY CLARABELLE IS A 10 YR OLD SENIOR LADY WHOSE OWNER DUMPED HER FOR PERSONAL PROBLEMS-NOW THIS POOR GIRL WILL DIE FOR HAVING A COLD AND BEING AFRAID! CLARABELLE certainly didn’t expect her owner to just toss her out of the home when she had a few litterbox accidents. She expected him to either take her to the vet to find out if something was wrong OR maybe clean the box more often? Sadly, neither of these things happened and CLARABELLE was whisked off to the kill happy shelter. This lovely tortie lady is relaxed and affectionate with children, but has not lived with other kitties. She is a quiet cat but loves to play with string. CLARABELLE was easy to handle upon intake but when it came time for the assessor to stick that fake plastic hand in the cage, she tried to flee and hissed! Gee – sounds like a normal cat to me! For this, she was punished with a NEW HOPE ONLY rating and you MUST contact a rescue group tonight to save her. CLARABELLE needs a chance to have another 10 years to live – and not be unfairly killed at noon. WON’T YOU BE CLARABELLE’S RESCUE ANGEL? CONTACT A RESCUE NOW AND OFFER TO FOSTER OR ADOPT THIS LOVELY OLDER GIRL AND YOU WON’T BE SORRY! EMAIL [email protected] FOR MORE INFO.

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
As per previous owner, Around strangers Clarabelle is shy for a few minutes and doesn’t play. Clarabelle has lived with children. She is relaxed and affectionate with them but doesn’t play. Clarabelle has never been around any other cats or dogs so it is unknown how she will react to them. Clarabelle’s previous owner states she has litter box accidents it happens a few times a week and she tends to urinate outside the litter box. This has been happening for the past month and she has not seen a vet for this problem. Our enrichment facilitator has interacted with Clarabelle and at the time she rises up, low growls and retreats to the back. Clarabelle hisses and bites. Clarabelle also looks around ready to flee and allows no contact. Reaction to assessor: Clarabelle does not come to front but remains neutral When spoken quietly: Clarabelle does not come to front but remains neutral Reaction to door cage opening: Clarabelle becomes stiff, alert Reaction to touch: Clarabelle hisses and tries to flee. She does not allows petting at all Try picking cat up: did not attempt to pick Clarabelle up due to fractious behavior Behavior Determination: NewHope Clarabelle was brought to the care center as a stray so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies previous to what we are seeing during the evaluation. She seems to not be thriving in this environment and at the time of the assessment Clarabelle was displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room. Clarabelle may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to flee is extremely fearful. She currently does not tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
