Safe - 2-3-2016 Brooklyn Rescue: Staten Island Hope Please honor your pledges: http://www.statenislandhoperescue.org/
*** SAFE 02/03/16**** IMAGINE BEING CARTED OUT OF YOUR HOME, PUT INTO A SMALL BOX, AND TAKEN AWAY FROM THE PEOPLE AND HOME YOU KNOW. YOU’RE BROUGHT TO A BIG SCARY PLACE WITH THE SMELL OF OTHER ANIMALS THAT ARE SCARED, AND DOGS BARKING. YOU ARE HANDLED BY PEOPLE YOU DON’T KNOW, and you’re already scared….CJ and LEA’S lives were turned upside down when their owners were evicted. Now they may lose their very lives…are they mother and daughter? They may well be, or perhaps just loving companions. Saving them isn’t difficult, it’s a matter of offering to foster them, give them space in a bathroom or even a large cat condo that a rescue might lend you. Their faces break your heart-CJ plainly understands that her life may be over-and is terrified. LEA has some hope…won’t you say, “yes” and be the change you want to see in the world. Be the Someone who Saves the life of a precious cat!!!

01/26/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
CJ was looked at before her evaluation. At the time she was curled up at the back hiding under blanket. She was showing signs of being tense by lip licking. CJ also lowered her head when touched. Reaction to assessor: CJ was hiding when I approach cage When spoken quietly: CJ continues to hide Reaction to door cage opening: CJ retreats Reaction to touch: CJ retreats further back until against the cage wall Try picking cat up: Did not attempted due to CJ showing signs of being stressed and fearful Behavior Determination: Experience No Child CJ was brought to the care center due to an eviction. We don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies previous to what we are seeing during the evaluation. At the time of the assessment she was displaying fearful behavior; does not seek attention from the assessor and becomes alert when the kennel was open. Retreats as I started to get closer but after a steady slow approach using soft voices I was able to pet her and interact with her in a limited way. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents and without children. 1/31 update: While CJ allows touch and petting, she does not appear to be thriving in the shelter environment. She continues to hide in her kennel, and has not warmed up to her caretakers or to interaction since arriving nearly two weeks ago. We feel that it is in CJ’s best interest to move into a stable home environment as quickly as possible.
