A staff member writes “At front of kennel, leaning against kennel door and reaching out towards me with soft paws. Makes eye contact with soft eyes. He allows petting along his head and body while leaning in and rolling over onto his side. He rubs his head all over my hand. Very affectionate and playful. Doing well!”

Hello, my name is Chunk. My animal id is #16523. I am a male black cat at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a stray on 19-Dec-2017.
Chuck was placed at risk for medical concerns. Chunk has lameness in his front right leg to the point where he does not put weight on it. Follow up with a veterinary hospital will be needed to monitor and find out a treatment plan. Chunk has also been very nervous while in the care center.

[DVM Intake] DVM Intake Exam Estimated age:1 year Microchip noted on Intake? n History : stray Subjective:limping rf paw, non weight bearing. several bare patches of fur one interscapular (woods neg) and a few on legs which may be traumatic Observed Behavior -initially soliciting attention, head butting but once limbs touched became irate Evidence of Cruelty seen -n Evidence of Trauma seen -n Objective T = P =200 R =wnl BCS 5/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal or ocular discharge noted Oral Exam: clean teeth PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: 2 testes MSI: Ambulatory x 3, rf paw broken but unsure if radius/ulna or carpus . appears to have injusy to right hock also, but minor skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment: fx rf foot Prognosis:good Plan: gave 0.4ml onsior, 0.5 simbadol will sedate tomorrow and take radiographs SURGERY: Okay for surgery Temporary waiver due to Permanent waiver due to

[LVT Intake Exam] Microchip Scan: negative Evidence of Cruelty:no Observed Behavior: hissing, striking out, attempted to bite. Non weight-bearing on right front foot. 0.15cc Telazol given IM for exam Sex: IM Estimated Age:2 years Subjective: stray. Finder has been feeding until injury noted. No other medical history. Eyes:clear Ears:waxy, cleaned Oral Exam: Chipped lower left canine. Mild staining and grooved upper canines. Heart: WNL Lungs: WNL Abdomen: Relaxed under sedation. Musculoskeletal: Swollen front right leg, mild swelling on hind right leg. X-rays taken on both for vet interpretation. No visible fractures. Mentation: appropriate Coat dirty. Small area of alopecia at right shoulder blade, healing abrasion. Mild alopecia on right hind leg near ankle with swelling and discoloration at paw pad. Nails long Preliminary Assessment: No visible fractures; possible soft tissue damage? Plan: Need DVM re-exam.

KNOWN HISTORY:: Chunk was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Initially very interactive, head butting, tail up. One paw touched became irate.

Reaction to assessor:: Chunk was relaxed and comes forward to greet the assessor at the front of the kennel.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Chunk rubs his body up against the kennel door then rolls over on his side.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Chunk remains calm and relaxed.
Reaction to touch:: Chunk lifts his head up to sniff the assessor, then gently nudges his hand and accepts petting. He gives head butts and rolls around playfully but seems to prefer petting/attention on his head. He’ll turn around and vocalize when pet along his back, lip lick, then go back to soliciting attention.
