Chowder, about four years old was presented to the shelter with bite wounds from an unknown source, and as such requires a six month quarantine/observation period. Chowder will need twice weekly visits to a vet for the next 3 weeks, and then monthly visits for the ensuing 4 months. Behaviorally, we have no concerns for Chowder, whom we believe would be suitable even for a beginner cat home. N History : stray, wounded Subjective: BAR Observed Behavior – compliant for exam Evidence of Cruelty seen – N Evidence of Trauma seen – Y- bite wounds LF w/ associated abscessation Objective T = 104.0 P = 180 R = 30 BCS 5/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal or ocular discharge noted; audibly wheezing during exam Oral Exam: crown fxs 104/204- no pulp exposure PLN: L prescap enlarged H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, lungs clear w/ referred upper airway sounds, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: Intact male- both testes symmetrical and in scrotum MSI: Ambulatory x 4 w/ LF lameness and swelling- puncture wounds of L antebrachium with associated abscess- tender to touch, inflamed and swollen, fleas and flea dirt, no masses noted CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: DNP Assessment: Puncture wounds (suspected bite wounds) L antebrachium with associated abscess; febrile; 104/204 crown fxs; URI; fleas; intact male Prognosis: fair to good Plan: Transfer to medical ISO for lancing / treatment of abscess LF (convenia, simbadol); start doxycycline @5mg/kg BID x10d for URI SURGERY: Temporary waiver due to puncture wounds and abscess, URI.

4y/o DSH Male intact feline presented to MACC on 12/16/17 with wounds consistent with bite wounds. The left antebrachium with associated abscess are the affected areas. Pet is febrile, but no neurologic symptoms that are generally associated with rabies are present at this time. Will continue to monitor.

S/O -QAR, docile, allows handling -good appetite -mild audible nasal stridor; no discharge or sneezing noted -eupnic -wounds on LF healing, no discharge or swelling -small hairless cystic cutaneous growth under R chin, suspect sebaceous gland cyst; mildly pruritic A 1. URI-active 2. Wounds LF, suspect bite wounds; resolving 3. Cutaneous growth-r/o sebaceous gland cyst vs other P -recommend removal of growth at time of neuter -nebulize SID x 3 days -continue doxyxycline -given convenia on intake

Hx: had several episodes of vomiting on 12/27 but would not tolerate cerenia injection; today is reportedly not eating S/O -QAR, usually docile and allows handling but today regresses and hisses when approached -small episode of foamy vomitus in cage, no obvious mild appetite -mm pk, tacky; CRT <2 sec -no nasal discharge, sneezing noted or reported -appears eupnic -reluctant to walk due to behavior but appears mentally appropriate A 1. Vomiting/nausea 2. Inappetance 3. Behavioral change-r/o stress vs secondary to illness vs other P -try to give cerenia 0.5 ml SQ SID x 2 days -do not suspect Rabies but should monitor overall health and neuro status closely due to DOH-V status

Recheck for vomiting/inappetance: S/O: quiet in kennel, resting in litter; mild congested resp sounds audible – no nasal discharge appreciated but maintains congested sounds when roused – mildly dehydrated; does not appear to be eating food offered – h/l nosf, incr resp sounds – resists extended amount of handling or restraint, did not become overly aggressive or show neuro signs at this time A: mildly congested r/o URI relapse vs other – mildly dehydrated P: rec’ offer different foods to stim. appetite (tuna, etc) + 1/4 Mirtazapine 15 mg tab PO EOD x 3 doses and reassess + LRS 150 ml SQ SID x 3 days

[Spay/Neuter Waiver – Upper Respiratory Illness]
Your newly adopted animal is in treatment for an upper respiratory illness. The veterinarian is temporarily waiving this animal from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY until such time as the illness has resolved and the pet has sufficiently recovered. At that time, this animal must come into compliance with the spay/neuter requirements.

Details on my behavior are…
Behavior Condition: 3. Yellow
Chowder allowed me to pet him and collar him. When I picked him up he became still and used his claws to hold onto the table. He jumped off the table and walked around but allowed me to pick him up. He attempted to flee while i took his picture and avoided eye contact.
Basic Information:: Chowder is a white and black male DSH cat, estimated to be 2 years old. He was found as a stray on 12/9/17. His finder did not take him into her home or interact with him much. Chowder slept in the lobby of her building.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Observed Behavior – compliant for exam
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 12/17/17 Resting next to litter box, eyes dilated but soft posture. Stood and came forward when door opened, started eating offered treats. Allowed all pets, started eating dry food. Completely ignored me throughout entire interaction. 12/18/17 Resting on bedding, soft gaze and posture, eyes a little dilated. Came and sat at the front on approach. Leaned and slowly arched into pets, seemed a bit lethargic, purred quietly. Ate offered treats. 01/03/18 Resting upon approach, but looks up with soft eyes when approached. Stays in place and accepts petting, then leans in for cheek and chin rubs. Has a soft body posture and seems to appreciate attention. Very sweet and mellow.
