Hello, my name is Chester. My animal id is #21933. I am a desexed male brown tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 15 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 01-Mar-2018, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- cannot afford to care for.
Chester is at risk due to medical condition. Chester is a geriatric cat with possible underlying conditions and would benefit from a geriatric work up at a vet. There are no behavior concerns for Chester at this time.

Upon intake, Chester was appreciative of petting. Chester came out of the carrier willingly. Chester allowed all handling.

Basic Information:: Chester is an approximately 15 year old neutered male that the owner adopted from ACC when he was a year old. The owner is surrendering because she cannot afford to care for Chester any longer. The owner has never taken Chester to the veterinarian.
If yes, Please elaborate:: Yes, Chester eliminates outside of his litter box on a daily basis.
Previously lived with:: adults, children, and another cat
How is this cat around strangers?: Chester is described as very friendly around strangers.
How is this cat around children?: Chester is relaxed around children and plays very gently with them.
How is this cat around other cats?: Chester is aggressive towards the other cat he lives with, he tries to chase and stalk the other cat.
How is this cat around dogs?: Chester has never been around dogs.
Behavior Notes: Chester has never been on a car ride. The owner has never bathed Chester or trimmed his nails. Chester is not bothered when he is brushed, picked up and held, or when he is disturbed while he sleeps. Chester struggles when he is put into a carrier.
Bite history:: Chester has never bitten or scratched another animal or person.

Chester has been kept indoors only. Chester sleeps anywhere in the home. Chester is free fed any variety of dry food. Chester uses a hooded litter box with clumping litter. Chester uses a cardboard scratching post.

Reaction to assessor:: Chester immediately comes soliciting at the front of the cage.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Chester remains soft in place.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Chester remains standing at the front of the cage, relaxed body posture, soliciting attention.
Reaction to touch:: Chester head-butts the assessor’s hand, purrs, and appreciates petting on the head and body.
Reaction to being picked up:: Allows the pick up and remains calm.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Moderate
VOCAL:: Somewhat chatty
