KNOWN HISTORY:
Charky was brought in with limited information on his behavior history in a home environment. He lived in a home with one adult and another male cat. The owner reported he bit them twice when trying to feed, however details about the incident, including trigger, warning signs, and severity are unknown. During the time of pick up, Charky displayed fearful behavior.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:
06/12/18
Lying down completely flat in his litter box. Whiskers pin back, hyper alert. Squints and leans away when touched, keeps tail wrapped around body. Tolerates slow pets along back, doesn’t move at all. Needs more time to adjust.
06/13/18
Hiding behind her blanket, underneath the kuranda bed. She lip licks and leans away when I pulled back the blanket. She maintains eye contact and continues lip licking. Tolerates slow gentle pets with the scratcher. Not interested in treats (party mix or tuna). She slowly turns her head away. Kept interaction short.
06/15/18
Tense and leaning against the back wall of the kennel. Alert and lip licks when I open the door. Slow blinks and accepts gentle petting on her cheeks. She maintains eye contact and lip licks. Sniffs treats, but wouldn’t eat them in front of me. Offered hiding space.
06/18/18
Lying down, resting by the back but wakes and makes eye contact when spoken to. Leans forward to sniff hand when extended, but lip licks and ears tilt sideways when pet, tense. Perks up when tuna was offered, so clicker trained and rewarded each time petting was allowed. Body relaxes after, but still seems unsure and wary.
06/20/18
Resting at the back of the kennel. Slow blinks when I approach the kennel. Tolerates attention with a slow approach, but seems wary of surroundings. Very food motivated. Clicker trained – rewarded with tuna when he accepted petting/attention. Rises up slowly, and accepts gentle petting on cheeks. She tends to stay at the back of the kennel, and isn’t confident enough to come forward.
06/21/18
Resting by the back, looking out with almond-shaped eyes and blinks when coaxed. Leans forward to sniff hand, but leans back when petting is attempted. Allows gentle petting, but lip licks. Clicker trained and rewarded each time he accepts petting. Body became more relaxed, but still preferred to stay by the back.
06/27/18
Pressed up against the back of the kennel. Flinches slightly when the door opens, then hisses. Seems a bit skittish, but sniffs my hand and accepts gentle petting on her head. Her ears bend slightly. Seems uncomfortable with a lot of attention. Not interested in treats/tuna. Enjoyed being rubbed on her cheeks with the scratcher. A litter nervous, just needs a slow approach.
06/28/18
Lying in back of cubby, body tense and pupils dilated. Leans forward to sniff the treats I have in my hand but doesn’t eat them. Tolerates petting along her head and body while licking her lips and drawing her head back. Accepts all petting while remaining tense and maintaining eye contact. Unsure, needs some time to adjust.
