11/23/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
According to his previous owner, Ceasar lived in a home with four adults and no children. When children visited the home, Ceasar would not allow them to touch him. He is calm around adults, both known and unknown, but Ceasar does not allow himself to be pet or picked up. He has not lived with other animals and has never been outdoors. Ceasar uses his box appropriately, without accidents. He did not allow handling during intake or his initial medical exam. Reaction to assessor: Ceasar was resting on his blanket, calm, made eye contact with soft eyes. Reaction when softly spoken to: Ceasar remained calmly resting on his blanket, observing the assessor with soft eyes. Reaction to cage door opening: Ceasar remained resting on his blanket, but began to survey his surroundings and lip licking. Reaction to touch: Ceasar lifted up and stretched head out to sniff assessor’s extended fingers, but became agitated when assessor attempted to touch head with a slow, gentle approach, growling, hissing, swatting. He retreated into an erect sitting position at the back of the cage, tail twitching, eyes wide and focused on the assessor, and would not allow any touching or attempts to touch. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Ceasar is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and may require further investigation before placement in a home. He has tried to swat and does not tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
